Contemporary Worship Music Director Position Available

University Baptist Church of Baltimore, MD is seeking a part-time music director to oversee the administration and growth of our contemporary worship program. Our “Fusion” Worship Service offers the congregation a mix of contemporary praise and worship, gospel, and jazz music in a casual yet historical church setting. Responsibilities:

  • Assist in leading music for one service every Sunday morning 11:00 am

  • In collaboration with pastoral staff, work to plan and shape the Fusion Worship Service at UBC including but not limited to: song selection for worship, incorporating new music, "flow" of worship service, and other opportunities for engaging and creative worship expression

  • Work with existing Fusion musicians to hone music and style to best serve the worship life of the UBC community

  • Work to incorporate recruiting, auditioning, and training volunteer musicians/vocalists so that UBC members can use worship giftedness to serve the congregation

  • Ensure the technical aspects of Fusion Worship are handled, such as preparing slides/ProPresenter setup, meeting equipment and A/V needs, and improving online streaming experience

  • Personally provide a spiritual presence up front during worship while also working with existing band members and volunteers to help them similarly provide spiritual leadership

Schedule and Compensation:

  • Estimated 15 hours/week, including Sunday worship and rehearsal commitment

  • Salary range: $25,000 - $30,000, based on 52 weeks with 2 weeks paid vacation and 2 additional Sundays without Fusion responsibilities. Salary is dependent on experience/qualifications and commensurate with the job responsibilities.

  • Must be willing to work some holidays, particularly during Christmas and Easter seasons.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Exemplifies personal commitment to the Christian faith and alignment with UBC’s beliefs and values as expressed in our Church Covenant and Statement of Welcome and Affirmation

  • Previous experience with contemporary worship music performance, with preference for experience in public worship leadership

  • Excellent musical skills and familiarity with contemporary worship trends and norms

  • Proficient in a wide variety of musical styles, especially as appropriate for worship

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills

  • Good organizational skills to plan music calendar, coordinate with musicians, and work with pastoral staff

  • Familiarity with Audio/Visual technology and church multimedia tools preferred
