The Liturgical Service

At 11:00 a.m. every Sunday morning at UBC, worshippers gather to experience a service designed to relate them personally and directly to God. Our service follows the rich Christian tradition of reading Scripture, singing classical hymns, participating in prayer, listening to beautiful choral anthems and solos, and hearing the word of God proclaimed and explained.

In the early Christian church, the word "liturgy" simply referred to a prescribed service of public worship. At UBC, the weekly liturgical services follow the seasons of the Christian Year: Advent, Christmas, Epiphany, Lent, Holy Week, Easter, and Pentecost. Scripture readings are taken from the Revised Common Lectionary, and the sermon is based on one or more of these biblical readings.

The structure and dignity of the liturgical service help people to reflect on the meaning of the words of Christ and enter into a growing relationship with God.
